Job summary

The ACLU seeks a Summer Undergraduate Intern for the National Prison Project in Washington, D.C. This role offers remote or hybrid work within the U.S. and requires current undergraduate matriculation and residency within the United States for the duration of the internship.

The intern will learn prison reform advocacy and litigation processes, gaining hands-on experience supporting advocacy materials, research, and staff with campaign and litigation activities.

Qualifications

• Must be currently matriculated as an undergraduate student.
• Strong interest in civil rights and the rights of incarcerated people.
• Excellent research, writing and communication skills.
• Able to work independently with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and web-based research.

Responsibilities

• Assist with production and distribution of advocacy materials.
• Conduct factual research and write about rights of incarcerated people and legislative developments.
• Gather current information related to prison and jail conditions.
• Document and track complaints from incarcerated people and respond with information.
• Provide campaign and litigation support to supervising attorneys.
