Job summary

The ACLU seeks a full-time Summer Undergraduate Intern in the Speech, Privacy and Technology Project of the ACLU’s National office in New York City. This position can be remote or hybrid.

There are no educational prerequisites for the position, and applicants must be matriculated undergraduates based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship, with a 35-hour week over 10 consecutive weeks and a $20/hour stipend (taxed).

Qualifications

• Must be currently matriculated undergraduate student in the U.S.
• No educational prerequisites in field; open to any background
• Strong interest in free speech, privacy and technology
• Commitment to social justice and civil liberties
• Strong research, writing, and communications skills

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on issues relating to free speech, privacy and technology
• Prepare, produce and develop litigation and advocacy materials
• Draft posts for the ACLU blog
• Research Freedom of Information Act requests
• Attend meetings to gain firsthand knowledge of active cases and advocacy projects
• Assist with litigation and advocacy projects
• Assist with the maintenance of case files
• Provide administrative support and other maintenance tasks
• Propose independent research projects relating to free speech, privacy and technology
