Job summary

State of South Dakota's Department of Transportation in Brookings is seeking an Intern - Transportation/Construction Engineering Intern for the Summer session (May–August). This role supports design, construction, or maintenance of state highway projects and offers hands-on field and office experience.

Ideal candidates are enrolled full-time or part-time students, with one year completed in their program; preference to South Dakota residents and students from SD institutions.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to applicants who are juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

• Interns will be involved in engineering activities in support of design, construction or maintenance of state highway construction projects.
• Duties may include participating on survey crew, materials testing, project inspection, data collection and verification, or other engineering related activities.
• Duties are outdoors and physical in nature.
