Job summary

KPFF Consulting Engineers in Boise invites a Civil Roadway Design Intern to join our transportation team. You will work with experienced engineers on roadway design, plan development, and construction support to learn how design decisions meet agency standards and public needs.

The internship emphasizes hands-on experience with alignments, grading, drainage, CAD software, and cross-disciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
• Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals and an interest in roadway or transportation design.
• Ability to interpret basic survey information, plans, and technical documentation.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Assist with roadway design tasks involving horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and related civil improvements.
• Help prepare plans, profiles, cross sections, details, quantity calculations, and cost estimates under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Support development and organization of design files and technical deliverables using civil design and computer-aided drafting software.
• Learn to apply agency design criteria, standards, and project requirements to real-world transportation projects.
• Coordinate with drainage, utility, structures, traffic, survey, environmental, and other project disciplines.
• Contribute to team discussions, quality-control reviews, and collaborative problem‑solving.
• Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.
