Job summary

The Hearst Newspapers’ San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a Metro Reporting Intern for Summer 2027. This 12-week paid internship trains and mentors interns while they report on a range of stories in a fast-paced, digitally focused metro team.

Interns will cover city government, neighborhoods, transit and breaking news, with duties including reporting for SFChronicle.com and collaborating with editors, photo, video, and data teams. Apply by Oct 10, 2026.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
• Interns are expected to live in the Bay Area during the internship and work in our downtown San Francisco office at least three days a week.

Responsibilities

• Report news for SFChronicle.com that may also publish in the Chronicle's print editions.
• Work closely with editors and other reporters and collaborate with newsroom teams such as photo, video and data.
• Compete to provide readers the timeliest and most authoritative information.
