BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina invites motivated students to join a 12-week summer internship in Columbia. The role includes on-site work Monday–Friday, gaining exposure to department processes, and supporting tasks across documents, databases, and research tools.

You will learn industry best practices under supervision. Qualified candidates are currently pursuing a 4-year degree, with at least 12 semester hours completed, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

Summary

Description Location

This is a full-time internship position (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday working on-site at 4101 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229, from May 17 – August 6, 2027, in an office environment. You must be able to work on‑site 5 days/week in Columbia throughout the 12-week internship.

What You’ll Do

• Training, tasks, and technologies you use will vary based on the area you work in.
• Working under direct supervision, you will complete tasks for maintaining information used in the department. This could include maintaining documents, spreadsheets, databases, or related items.
• You will utilize various systems and tools to perform research and assist with projects as needed and follow established procedures.
• You will participate in department training designed to help you acquire applicable knowledge and skills in your area of study.
• You will complete area tasks that are conducive to learning the departmental procedures and applying industry/field best practices.
• You may communicate with other areas of the company.
• You may create, present, and/or report on area statistics and/or knowledge acquired.
• You will perform tasks that help in learning the business area and which provide an overall view of company operations.
• Assist other staff members with everyday tasks in order to gain an understanding of business operations and workflow.
• You will participate in a variety of volunteering and networking events, presentations, and discussions to learn more about the healthcare insurance industry.

To Qualify for this Position, You’ll Need

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Analytical or critical thinking skills.
• Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
• Good planning and multi-tasking skills.
• Strong listening skills and the ability to follow directions and ask questions to ensure a productive internship.
• Microsoft Office.

We Prefer that You Have

• Minimum of 12 semester hours earned in your field of study and must be currently enrolled in college and working towards obtaining a 4-year degree.
• Have completed at least two years of academic study (rising junior or senior).
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, Business Analytics, Digital Media, or a related field.
• Interest in brand marketing, digital marketing, communications, or market research.
• Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Analytics, Power BI, or similar tools is a plus.
