Job description

Perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city facilities and systems. There is potential interest in working in new crafts such as electrical and HVAC.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the immediate supervision of the Divisional Crew Leader.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintains plant site by operating mowers, weed eaters, edgers, etc.
2. Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking before and after use.
3. Assists in maintaining records related to inspections and maintenance activities.
4. Performs all duties in accordance with safety standards.
5. Participates in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
6. Assists in changing HVAC filters in various city facilities.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Some knowledge of facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
• Skills in operating some of the listed tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods, work safely, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and understand and follow instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, ladders, lawnmowers, weed eaters, paint brushes, post hole diggers, shovels, and rakes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands include regular use of hands to operate objects and tools, standing, talking, hearing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and smelling. Employees must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees work outdoors in various weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and are exposed to wet/humid conditions, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and electrical hazards. The noise level is usually loud.
