Job summary

Department of Social Services in Sioux Falls offers a Summer Internship: Intern - Child Protection Services (Summer). Location: Sioux Falls. Session: May–August. Minimum salary: 20.82 per hour.

The intern assists Family Services Specialists with families where children are unsafe, supports safety planning, and participates in a range of protective services activities. Coursework in social work, psychology, sociology, or related fields is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and SD institution students.

Responsibilities

• Assist Family Services Specialists with families whose children are unsafe.
• Receive reports from the community regarding allegations of maltreatment.
• Conduct assessments with families regarding maltreatment allegations.
• Intervene with families to address changes needed to secure child safety.
• Coordinate and facilitate family team meetings; recruit and support foster/relative homes.
• Match resource families for children unable to return to birth families.
