Job summary

MoDOT is seeking a Right of Way Intern for the Southwest District Office in Springfield, MO. The role provides administrative and paraprofessional support in relocation, appraisals, and negotiations under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities include researching county records, preparing negotiator packets, bid packages, and assisting with fee services and title commitments while coordinating with the district realty asset committee.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
  • 30 credit hours completed toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
  • Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Research county records to obtain deeds and other documents of record, conduct title searches, and review prior project plans and acquisitions.
  • Prepare negotiator packets including deeds, escrow agreements, and letters of offer.
  • Prepare bid packages to obtain title, mediation, appraisal, or other contracts.
  • Monitor and track right of way activities, leases, acquisitions and disposals; compile reports.
  • Gather information for review by district realty asset committee and facilitate meetings as necessary.
  • Assist with requesting fee services, including ordering title commitments and coding fee bills for payment.
  • Prepare and code acquisition payrolls and tax information for reporting purposes.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.

The right of way intern provides routine administrative and paraprofessional support in right of way activities such as relocation, appraisals, and negotiations including resolving standard issues and minor nonstandard issues with a moderate degree of independence. Complex nonstandard issues or special problems are referred to the appropriate personnel. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

  • Research county records to obtain last deeds of record and/or other documents of record, conducts title searches, and research previous project plans and acquisition deeds.
  • Prepare negotiator packets to include general warranty deeds, escrow agreements, deeds of release, letters of offer, and other required documents.
  • Prepare bid packages for the purpose of obtaining title, mediation, appraisal, or other contracts.
  • Monitor and track various right of way activities such as active leases, realty asset acquisitions, and realty asset disposals; compile information and prepares reports as necessary.
  • Gather information for review by district realty asset committee and facilitates committee meetings as necessary.
  • Assist with requesting fee services, including ordering title commitments, monitoring receipt of title commitments ordered, obtaining requested information from title companies, and coding fee services' bills for payment.
  • May prepare and code acquisition payrolls and various statements for payments, prepare requests for programmed amounts, and compile tax information for reporting purposes.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
