Job summary

State of Missouri’s Southwest District Office in Springfield, MO is seeking a design intern to assist engineers with drafting, plan preparation, and public hearings materials. The position offers exposure to highway design tasks and data gathering in a real transportation setting.

You will gain hands-on experience with AutoCAD and road design software, contribute to project summaries, and support historical records research.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Utilize computer aided drafting, road design software and various other computer software packages to assist in the preparation of computer-generated design plans by drafting and adding text to the design file and producing plan sheets.
• Utilize design software, computer aided design and drafting, or calculator to calculate quantities, types and sizes of materials and other information as required for project assignments; prepares summaries of quantities.
• Delineate right of way on plans and computes areas; print microfilm plans and maps for survey research and requests.
• Mount displays, project overviews, maps, and photos for public hearings and presentations; prepare handouts for bid lettings, public hearings, legal hearings and public meetings.
• Research historical databases and records; locate and reproduce highway plans that are kept on microfilm or compact disk for designers, the general contractors, consultants, and utility companies.
