Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company invites applications for a Summer Intern in Setpoints and Control Systems. The paid, full-time hybrid internship runs May–August 2027 at Warrendale and Cranberry, PA, reporting to the Setpoint and Control Systems Manager.

You will collaborate with engineers across nuclear subsystems, support AP1000 digital and legacy analog protection systems, and develop setpoints for daily plant operations.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or nuclear engineering.
• Completed Sophomore year of college.
• Coursework in statistics, data analysis, fluid mechanics, dynamic systems, and thermodynamics.
• Coursework in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) design and operation.

Responsibilities

• Support functional design of AP1000 digital control systems and legacy analog protection systems
• Maintain NSSS Control System Functional Requirements and Diagrams
• Analyze operational transients to test I&C logic and settings
• Analyze low-temperature over-pressurization scenarios and maintain LTOPS configurations to ensure adequate protection
• Perform calculations to ensure reactor protection systems meet safety limits considering instrumentation and process uncertainties
• Determine setpoints that govern daily plant operations
• Other responsibilities assigned by the Setpoint and Control Systems Manager

About the role:

As a Setpoints and Control Systems Engineering intern, you will collaborate with experienced engineers and subject matter experts across a variety of nuclear subsystems.

You will report to the Setpoint and Control Systems Manager and be located at our Warrendale and Cranberry facilities. This is a paid full-time hybrid position for the summer, May - August 2027.

Key Responsibilities:

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly rate for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $25.40 to $29.00 per hour.
