Job summary

General Motors’ SEAM team in Sunnyvale is seeking a Summer Intern to work on sensing, estimation, and mapping for autonomous driving. You will design and implement algorithms, integrate multi-sensor data, and help evaluate system performance in real-world scenarios.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers across perception, planning, and controls, contributing to research and production-grade software while applying best practices in software development and documentation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in a technical field (robotics, CS, EE, ME, applied math).
• Strong coursework/proj/work in robotics, state estimation, sensor fusion, CV, localization, mapping, controls.
• Proficient in C++ and/or Python with solid problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, prototype, and evaluate algorithms for sensor fusion, state estimation, localization, calibration, or mapping.
• Work with multi-modal data sources (camera, lidar, radar, IMU, maps).
• Implement software/tools for data processing, visualization, offline analysis, and simulation.
• Analyze accuracy, robustness, latency, and failure modes under diverse conditions.
• Follow software engineering best practices including reviews, testing, CI, and documentation.
• Collaborate with perception, planning, controls, robotics, and systems teams.
