Job summary

Griffith Company is offering paid summer internships in its Landscape Division. Interns will support Project Managers, Estimators, Project Engineers and field personnel, gaining hands-on experience in heavy civil construction in California.

Interns will perform tasks such as developing CPM schedules, handling submittals and RFIs, reviewing plans and specifications, and assisting with field layouts and environmental plans.

Qualifications

• Students must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Construction, Landscape Design, Landscape Horticulture, or Ornamental Horticulture.

Responsibilities

• Perform job site administration and documentation (under supervision).
• Assist in developing and maintaining a CPM schedule.
• Track submittals, RFIs, and contract change orders, daily cost vs. project budget, quantities and equipment and project logs.
• Attend bid review meetings with estimating team to understand the estimate process.
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
• Complete material and quantity take offs according to project scope of work.
• Assist superintendent and foreman with layout and other technical requirements.
• Assist with diesel emissions control plans and monitoring.
• Preparation of work plans and/or storm water protection plans.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Our Summer Internship Program is very learning intensive, so students can expect to do challenging work and to engage in activities that will broaden their awareness of the great career opportunities in heavy civil construction and with Griffith Company.

What you can expect

As a summer intern you can expect to handle a variety of real world tasks in support of our Project Managers, Estimators, Project Engineers and or field personnel. Below is an example of intern responsibilities:

• Perform job site administration and documentation (under supervision).
• Assist in developing and maintaining a Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule.
• Track 1 or more of the following: submittals, RFI’s and contract change orders, daily cost vs. project budget, quantities and equipment and project logs.
• Attend bid review meetings with estimating team to understand the estimate process.
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
• Complete material and quantity take offs according to project scope of work.
• Assist superintendent and foreman with layout and other technical requirements.
• Assist with diesel emissions control plans and monitoring.

You will be given as much responsibility as you are willing to accept.

Qualifications

Students must be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in one of the following areas or very similar area:

Hourly Wage Range

$22.00 - $27.00 (depending on internship and educational experience).
