Job summary

Griffith Company invites students to join our Summer Internship Program in the Landscape Division in California. You will work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and field staff to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real projects.

The internship is learning-intensive, with opportunities to view multiple projects, meet executives, and participate in mentorship sessions designed to broaden your construction industry knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Students must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in one of the following areas or very similar area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform job site administration and documentation (under supervision).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule.
  • Track submittals, RFIs, and contract change orders; monitor costs and budgets.
  • Attend bid review meetings with estimating team to understand the estimate process.
  • Review proposals, drawings, soils reports, and site conditions to determine scope of work.
  • Complete material and quantity take offs according to project scope of work.
  • Assist superintendent and foreman with layout and other technical requirements.
  • Assist with diesel emissions control plans and monitoring.
  • Prepare work plans and storm water protection plans.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

If you arelooking for a career in construction, we are offering paid summer internships in our Landscape Division. Candidates will preferably be enrolled in a Landscape themed academic program.
Our Summer Internship Program is very learning intensive, so students can expect to do challenging work and to engage in activities that will broaden their awareness of the great career opportunities in heavy civil construction and with Griffith Company.

What you can expect

As a summer intern you can expect to handle a variety of real world tasks in support of our Project Managers, Estimators, Project Engineers and or field personnel. Below is an example of intern responsibilities:

  • Perform job site administration and documentation (under supervision).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule.
  • Track 1 or more of the following: submittals, RFI's and contract change orders, daily cost vs. project budget, quantities and equipment and project logs.
  • Attend bid review meetings with estimating team to understand the estimate process.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
  • Complete material and quantity take offs according to project scope of work.
  • Assist superintendent and foreman with layout and other technical requirements.
  • Assist with diesel emissions control plans and monitoring.
  • Preparation of work plans and or storm water protection plans.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

You will be given as much responsibility as you are willing to accept.

In addition to what you learn from your day-to-day duties, you will have opportunities to learn from a 1-on-1 meeting with 1 of our executives, information sessions with our Division Managers, visits to 2-3 of our construction projects, a day of training for our interns, access to potential mentors and more.

Qualifications

Students must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in one of the following areas or very similar area:

  • Ornamental Horticulture
Hourly Wage Range

$22.00 - $27.00 (depending on internship and educational experience).
