Heartland Food Products Group is seeking a detail-oriented Food Microbiology Laboratory Intern in Indianapolis, IN. This hands-on internship offers an opportunity to work in an industrial microbiology setting, manage an independent research project, and learn data analysis for lab reports and presentations.

The role emphasizes laboratory operations, sample analysis, and adherence to SOPs and quality standards.

Qualifications

Pursuing or recently completed degree in a life science field (microbiology/biology/food science/bacteriology).
Strong communication and English language skills.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email handling.

Responsibilities

Take ownership of a basic laboratory research problem, collect and analyze data, and present findings to the team at internship end.
Assist in processing, weighing, and preparing food or ingredient samples for microbiological analysis using sterile techniques.
Prepare test solutions, reagents, and culture media as needed.
Assist senior staff with plating, culture transfers, and monitoring of microbial growth.
Record data and testing parameters accurately in SOPs and data integrity guidelines.
Test environmental samples for microbial bioburden and indicator organisms.
Set up and calibrate instruments for sample analysis.
