Job summary

Kirkham Michael & Associates, Inc. is seeking energetic civil engineering students for temporary Summer Engineering Intern positions in 2027 at our Ellsworth, KS; Salina, KS; or Edmond, OK offices. You will work under a senior team member and receive instruction on CAD design and basic engineering tasks.

Duties include CAD drawing, basic calculations, field construction observation and materials testing, with training in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in progress; currently enrolled in Civil Engineering
• Experience in transportation or construction engineering is a plus but not required
• Knowledge of civil engineering concepts and procedures
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Valid driver’s license required

Responsibilities

We are currently looking for energetic and knowledgeable civil engineering students to fill temporary Summer Engineering Intern positions for our Ellsworth, Salina, Kansas or our Edmond, Oklahoma offices in 2027. You will work under the direction of a senior team member and receive specific instruction for required tasks and project components. Duties may include: CAD design/drawing, basic engineering calculations, and field construction observation and materials testing. Instruction in basic AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation will be provided as you begin to apply engineering education to practical design solutions.

Responsibilities

Assignments will be tailored to the course work completed by the intern and may include:

• Drawing (AutoCAD, Microstation) assignments to assist in development of project plans


• Standard computations or analysis


• Observe on-site construction activities, assist with materials testing

• Perform bridge inspections in the field and assist with generating inspection reports


• Assist on other tasks such as: hydrology and hydraulics studies, bridge load ratings, report preparation, preparation of permit applications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in progress; c urrently enrolled at an accredited university majoring in Civil Engineering


• Experience in transportation or construction engineering a plus but not required


• Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of civil engineering to projects


• High level of creativity


• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills


• Successful candidates will be articulate with professional presence, with solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills


• Valid Driver's License required

Compensation

The estimated compensation range for this position is $20 - $28 / hour. This range is just an estimate for this posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon your level of education.
