Job summary

Midwest Energy, Inc. is seeking an engineering intern to support the development, planning, construction, and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.

The role involves basic calculations, equipment research, and updating system models for safe, reliable operations. You will gain hands-on experience with system planning tools, fieldwork, and long-range studies, while maintaining records and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree with a sophomore standing or higher in engineering, pre-engineering, or physics with interest in engineering related fields.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Demonstrates strong analytical skills and the ability to process and interpret technical information.
• Applies effective problem-solving techniques to identify and resolve challenges.

Responsibilities

• Prepare basic engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in similar engineering analyses.
• Assist with basic equipment selection research.
• Supports engineering model integrity by adding new customers, posting work orders, and applying model corrections as identified.
• Conduct electric system analysis using system planning and design software.
• Familiarize with Midwest construction and design standards and applicable engineering codes.
• Maintain engineering records and lists as required.
• Assist with reports within the Engineering Department.
• As requested, assist with field work to gather information and/or inspect distribution facilities.
• Assist with long range planning studies.
• Coordinate design with other personnel working on same project to minimize design conflicts, as assigned.
• Become familiar with capabilities of Midwest’s Outage Management System.
• Prepare assigned reports, studies, or analysis for project.
• Maintain and organize records, lists, schedules, etc. for engineering projects.
• Promote safe working habits and follow all safety rules and regulations of Midwest Energy, Inc.
• Develop and maintain internal and external working relationships for maximum effectiveness in serving Midwest Energy customers and communities.
