Job summary

Steppingstone Foundation, Inc. offers a Summer Advising Internship at Milton Academy in Milton, MA. The role supports college students exploring careers in education, with hands-on classroom experience and mentorship on a rigorous program for rising 5th–7th graders.

Interns participate in weekly seminars, co-teach lessons, provide mentorship, and assist with program operations. The program runs in person and emphasizes social-emotional learning and restorative practices.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least one year of college by start of internship.
• Prior experience working with children and/or in an educational setting.
• Ideal candidates study social work, psychology, or community psychology.
• Ideal candidates have a basic understanding of restorative justice.

Responsibilities

• Co-teach with mentor advisor to develop scholars’ social-emotional skills.
• Meet weekly with mentor advisor for professional development and feedback.
• Plan and lead whole-class social-emotional lessons with mentor support.
• Provide mentorship to students 1-on-1 or in groups during study hall, lunch, and other times.
• Conduct structured check-ins and lunch bunches to assess academic and social needs.
• Substitute teach as necessary.
• Attend weekly seminars and workshops with Internship Coordinator and guest speakers.
• Plan and co-teach a weekly elective and a weekly physical education class.
• Assist in staff logistics and office duties.
• Supervise arrival, dismissal, meals, and recess periods.
• Reflect on summer experience in writing and conversations.
