The custodial helper assists with cleaning and maintaining campus buildings. This is a summer only position with an expected start date in May 2026. It is a part‑time hourly non‑benefits eligible position. The starting wage for this position is $16.94 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Prepares dorm rooms for summer occupants and guests.
- Restocks toilet paper, paper towels, and soap dispensers.
- Vacuums, dusts, mops floors, and spot washes walls. Dusts or vacuums furniture.
- Arranges classroom furniture, cleans chalkboards & whiteboards, restocks chalk, markers, and erasers.
- Cleans entrances and elevators. Sweeps outside steps and polices the outside perimeter of the building.
- Collects and removes all trash and recycling.
- Washes windows.
- Arranges furniture in social spaces/lounges.
- Supports the College’s Recycling program.
- Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from team liaisons and supervisors.
- Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental practices and procedures.
- Sets up and removes furniture and equipment for special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and push or pull up to 100 lbs.
- Must be able to lift 10‑20 lbs. frequently.
- Able to walk and climb stairs frequently.
- Must be able to carry supplies and equipment up and down stairs.
- Must be able to bend, squat and kneel frequently.
- Must be able to perform frequent over‑head reaching movements.
Qualifications
- Custodial experience preferred. No formal education or training required.
- Previous Middlebury College employment preferred.
- Able to follow written and oral instructions. Able to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, fellow workers, students, faculty and the rest of the College staff.
- May be required to work independently and follow a schedule.
- Must be able to work weekends as required.
