Job summary

Benton County Public Works/Highway Department invites applicants to the Civil Engineering Technician Summer Internship for 2027. The program targets recent high school graduates entering college, offering hands-on experiences in design, surveying, material testing, and inspection with mentorship from engineering technicians. Interns will work 7:30 a.m.

to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with start/end dates flexible to fit school schedules.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED by start date.
• Must be at least 18 years old by start date.
• Must be accepted into a civil engineering or land surveying program with a fall start date.
• No prior civil engineering or land surveying experience required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive in Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, development, and implementation of highway design and construction projects.
• Assist with staking, surveying, drafting and design work to meet requirements.
• Assist with inspecting and documenting construction activities and materials.
• Assist with performance of tests for soils, aggregates, bituminous, concrete materials.
• Monitor project progress and ensure compliance with standards and laws.
