Job summary

Middlebury College is hiring a Bilingual Assistant in Chinese for the 2022 summer session at the Middlebury Language Schools. The position is in-person in Middlebury, VT, with lodging and a meal plan provided. Open date was Nov 2, 2021, with applications due by Jan 10, 2022, or until filled.

2–3 openings are available. The role encompasses program ambassador duties, student life support, co-curricular activities, tutoring and pedagogical support, IT and communications tasks, and general office

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred; advanced degree a plus.
Native or near-native proficiency in Chinese and English, oral and written.
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to work with people of all ages and levels (students, professionals, and colleagues).
Willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Serve as primary in-language contact for students and faculty; know program and campus resources.
Engage with students, provide linguistic practice, encouragement, and support outside of class.
Design and implement team-building exercises for classes or the program.
Support students' commitment to the Language Pledge and rigorous learning environment.
Represent the School, Language Schools administration, and the Middlebury community.
