Job summary

Middlebury College invites applications for a bilingual French/English summer assistant role with the Middlebury Language Schools. The position is on the campus in Vermont for the 7-week session and involves close interaction with students and faculty, tutoring, IT support, and event coordination.

Strong language skills, a Bachelor's degree (or higher preferred), and excellent organizational and communication abilities are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree strongly preferred; advanced degree a plus.
• Native or near-native proficiency in French and English, oral and written.
• Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with people of all ages and levels.
• Willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary in-language contact for students and faculty.
• Engage with students, providing linguistic practice, encouragement, and support.
• Design and implement team-building exercises for classes or the program.
• Support students' commitment to the Language Pledge and rigorous learning environment.
• Represent the School, the Language Schools administration, and the Middlebury community.
• Represent the School administration in the dorms and social spaces; supervise evenings and weekends.
• Coordinate and lead co-curricular activities and events across the program.
• Provide regular tutoring hours and conversation practice outside of class.
• Offer general IT support for faculty, guests, and students; assist with curricular tech.
• Translate School and other official Middlebury documents.
• Administer School office and scheduling tasks.
