Job summary

Mass Audubon seeks field teachers to support field trips and in-school programs at Oak Knoll and Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuaries. Role involves hikes, nature exploration, and hands-on learning aligned with science standards for K-12 students.

Positions may cover one or both sites in Norfolk and Bristol County, with programs typically 8:00am–4:00pm, Monday–Friday, Oct 2026–June 2027; 0–20 hours/week. CORI/SORI background checks required.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• A love of nature and teaching outdoors.
• Interest and experience with natural history, environmental education and/or science education.
• Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills.
• Experience in customer service or childcare and excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and lead school program participants in hands-on nature-based learning at Mass Audubon Wildlife sanctuaries and schools.

• Monitor participants in indoor/outdoor environments and ensure safety and comfort.
• Learn and teach a variety of environmental education activities.
• Engage participants in hands-on learning to develop ecology and conservation knowledge.
• Assist in setup before and cleanup after programs.
• Travel to various sites throughout Norfolk and Bristol Counties to facilitate programming.

About This Position

We are seeking field teachers to help with field trips and in‑school programs at Oak Knoll and Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuaries. Our field trip programs engage students in kindergarten through high school in hikes and nature exploration at our sanctuaries. Our in‑school programs offer engaging kits and hands‑on activities in the classrooms. All our programs align with state and national science standards and encourage exploration, collaboration, and inquiry. Field teachers can help with programs at one or both sites in Norfolk and Bristol County.

• Knowledge of local natural history, conservation, and environmental education
• Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching or other equity-based pedagogy
• Experience delivering urban environmental education programming or equivalent
• Flexibility and ability to adapt programming to fit each group’s needs
• First Aid and CPR (child and adult) certification

Compensation, Benefits And Perks

This position’s pay range is $19.00-$20.00 per hour; actual rate of pay will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Work Schedule

This position runs from October 2026 through June 2027. Hours vary based on program demand and may range from 0-20 hours per week. Programs are typically scheduled Monday‑Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm, with occasional Saturday opportunities. Most work is available during the busy field trip seasons (October‑November and April‑June), with limited or no programming during the winter months.

Other Requirements

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
