Job description

Overview

Camp Walt Whitman is seeking athletic coaches and instructors for Basketball, Lacrosse, Soccer, Volleyball, Baseball, Golf, Hockey, Dance, and Gymnastics. Coaches should be able to operate successfully and responsibly without constant supervision and be able to excite, instruct, and coach a wide variety of interests and skill levels within the same age group. The program emphasizes modeling good sportsmanship and positive coaching while coaching campers in inter-camp tournaments, often with three games in one afternoon. In addition to the main sports, the athletics program offers “exotic” sports such as Field Hockey, Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, and Aussie Rules football, among others.

Responsibilities

• Coach campers in assigned sports, ensuring safety, fair play, and age-appropriate instruction.
• Demonstrate sportsmanship and positive coaching, and manage groups with minimal supervision.
• Engage a wide range of skill levels and interests within the same age group.
• Assist with inter-camp tournaments and daily practice schedules as needed.
• Support the athletics program in offering a variety of sports, including exotic options.
