Under the direct supervision of the Camp Coordinator, Camp Counselors are responsible for the safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of campers within their assigned group at LAP summer camp. Due to the curriculum and activities' intensity, we seek highly motivated individuals with experience who can work well with youth and adult team members. The commitment includes 6 weeks of camp (June 23 - August 1) plus pre- and post-camp hours (orientation, training, debriefing). All camp staff are supervised by the Camp Coordinator and must demonstrate experience or a genuine desire to work with youth, strong communication skills, leadership, a positive attitude, flexibility, humor, energy, and stamina. We prefer individuals who enjoy outdoor work and can handle physically demanding days.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Camp Responsibilities

• Attend orientation, teambuilding, and training sessions
• Complete all pre-camp requirements (clearances, applications)
• Assist with camp setup, curriculum completion, room decoration, and Jr. counselor prep

Camp Responsibilities

• Implement weekly schedules for assigned groups
• Facilitate group activities and ensure timely transitions
• Foster a sense of belonging among campers
• Anticipate and resolve issues, ensure safety, monitor attendance and behavior
• Help campers make friends and recognize their needs
• Stay on your feet all day, be energetic and engaged
• Communicate with parents and report concerns
• Serve as a role model and guide Jr. counselors
• Maintain accurate records and ensure site cleanliness

Post Camp Responsibilities

• Assist with camp breakdown
• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• Experience working with children/youth in educational or youth programming settings
• Ability to lead small groups and manage projects
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Experience resolving disciplinary issues
