Job description

Summary

Attend to children in various settings such as schools, businesses, private households, and childcare institutions. Perform tasks including dressing, feeding, bathing, and supervising play.

Duties
  1. Support children's emotional and social development, fostering understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  2. Care for children in institutional settings like group homes, nursery schools, private businesses, or schools for the handicapped.
  3. Sanitize toys and play equipment.
  4. Discipline children and suggest or implement behavior management measures, such as helping children manage their clothing and tidy up toys and books.
  5. Identify signs of emotional or developmental issues and communicate concerns to parents or guardians.
  6. Observe and monitor children's play activities.
  7. Keep records on individual children, including observations, activities, meals, and medications.
  8. Instruct children on health and personal habits, such as eating, resting, and toilet routines.
  9. Read to children and teach simple arts and crafts, songs, and other activities.
  10. Organize and store toys and materials to maintain order.
  11. Operate in-house day-care centers within businesses.
  12. Sterilize bottles and prepare formulas.
  13. Dress children and change diapers.
  14. Assist children with homework and school activities.
  15. Perform housekeeping duties like laundry, cleaning, dishwashing, and changing linens.
  16. Accompany children to and from school, outings, and medical appointments.
  17. Assist children with baths or pools.
  18. Maintain a safe and healthy play environment.
  19. Communicate with parents or guardians about daily activities and issues.
  20. Help prepare and serve meals and snacks.
  21. Create developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  22. Manage children's rest periods.
  23. Handle administrative tasks such as attendance, paperwork, and phone calls.
  24. Organize recreational activities and outings, including games and field trips.
  25. Provide care for children with mental health issues, delinquency, or disabilities.
  26. Supervise, train, and schedule personnel.
