Responsibilities

  • Support substation project scoping and review relay settings.
  • Coordinate with design and construction teams to develop project scope and estimates.
  • Assist in project scheduling using Primavera.
  • Model power systems with APA and maintain relay fault analysis models.
  • Develop relay settings for substation protective relays for transmission assets.
  • Coordinate with field, distribution and plant engineers for system protection alignment.
  • Review and approve consultant-developed settings; assist with contractor awards and invoices.
  • Support compliance with NERC/SERC standards and CIP/PRC requirements.
  • Establish and improve relay testing procedures; develop test plans for planned projects.
  • Develop configurations for non-RTU assets (e.g., DFR, PQ meters).
  • Participate in substations visits and provide protection system expertise.
  • Manage protection-related documents in Documentum (WebTop and IPS-TRAMS).
  • Assist with storm/restoration activities as needed.
  • Investigate relay firmware/software changes impacting Entergy systems.

Entergy’s Project Delivery Engineering Department is responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and operating over 16,000 miles of transmission lines and over 2,700 substations across the four-state territory.

Intern Job Description:
  • Support and participate in project scoping activities for substation projects. Review existing relay settings. Coordinate with design and construction organizations to develop project scope and estimate sheets
  • Support and participate in project scoping activities for substation projects. Review existing relay settings. Coordinate with design and construction organizations to develop project scope and estimate sheets.
  • Support project schedules and processes by using activity tracking applications such as Primavera.
  • Model power systems using APA (previously known as PSS CAPE). Maintain master model for relay fault analysis. Support wide area coordination. Occasionally use additional tools such as ETAP, EMTP and Hypersim.
  • Develop relay settings for substation protective relays. This includes performing fault studies and developing relay settings for transmission protection equipment related to capital projects and asset maintenance projects.
  • Works with field groups, distribution engineers and plant engineers to ensure coordination of downstream distribution devices for the system.
  • Oversee, review, and approve settings developed by professional consultant engineers. This includes awarding projects to contractors and reviewing invoices.
  • Support activities pertaining to SERC/NERC standards compliance and other utility relations as required with focus around PRC and CIP standards.
  • Establish and improve relay testing laboratory. Develop and support relay test plans for planned projects.
  • Support development of configurations for non RTU assets such as DFR and PQ meters.
  • Participate in substation visits. Provide technical support and protection system expertise in response to operational/commissioning requests from field personnel.
  • Manage documentation via Documentum (WebTop and IPS-TRAMS) for transmission system protection and other records according to company and departmental policies.
  • Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.
  • Support protection standard development and implementation as required.
  • Investigate impact of relay firmware and software changes to Entergy system applications. Develop and update templates as appropriate.
  • Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e. NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
  • Travel may be required for the position
Education Requirements

Seeking Electrical Engineering major.

Junior and Senior candidate with graduation dates of May 2027 and beyond preferred.

Must be actively pursuing a bachelors, masters or doctorate degree as indicated above and at minimum classified as a sophomore or beyond.
