Job description

Job Title: Summer 2027 Reliability Engineer Intern

As a Reliability Engineer Intern, you will play a critical role in improving the reliability, performance, and long-term health of manufacturing assets across the site. Working alongside Reliability, Maintenance, and Operations teams, you'll support initiatives focused on predictive maintenance, equipment reliability, asset risk management, and continuous improvement. Throughout the summer, you'll gain hands-on experience analyzing equipment performance, investigating reliability issues, and developing data-driven solutions that improve plant operations. A key focus of this internship will be supporting the continued development of the site's Asset Health Map program, a strategic initiative designed to improve equipment health visibility, prioritize reliability risks, and guide maintenance and capital investment decisions. This internship is ideal for students who enjoy solving complex technical problems, analyzing data, improving equipment performance, and working directly with manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Asset Health Mapping & Reliability Analytics
Support the continued development and implementation of the site's Asset Health Map program.
Collect, organize, and analyze equipment reliability, maintenance, inspection, and operational data to improve visibility into asset health and performance.
Evaluate equipment condition indicators and reliability metrics to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
Develop tools and processes that improve how asset health information is tracked, communicated, and utilized across the site.
Assist in establishing standardized methodologies for assessing equipment condition and reliability performance.

  • Predictive & Preventive Maintenance Improvements
Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives that improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
Review maintenance strategies and equipment histories to identify opportunities for optimization.
Analyze condition monitoring data, inspection findings, and maintenance records to support proactive maintenance decision-making.
Assist in evaluating maintenance effectiveness and identifying opportunities to improve asset performance.
Participate in ongoing initiatives focused on extending equipment life and reducing maintenance costs.

  • Asset Criticality & Risk Assessment
Assist in developing asset criticality and risk-based prioritization models that help guide maintenance and capital investment decisions.
Evaluate equipment based on operational impact, safety, environmental, quality, and business risks.
Support the creation of risk-ranking methodologies used to prioritize reliability improvements and replacement projects.
Participate in equipment risk assessments and asset management reviews.
Help identify assets requiring increased monitoring, maintenance optimization, or future replacement planning.

  • Reliability Investigations & Root Cause Analysis
Assist with investigations involving equipment failures, recurring reliability issues, and chronic asset performance challenges.
Support root cause analysis efforts to identify failure mechanisms and develop sustainable corrective actions.
Analyze historical maintenance and operational data to identify trends and recurring failure modes.
Participate in bad actor reviews and continuous improvement initiatives targeting underperforming assets.
Document findings and support implementation of reliability improvement recommendations.

  • Capital Planning & Mechanical Reliability
Support long-range equipment replacement strategies and capital planning efforts.
Utilize asset health and risk assessment data to help identify future investment priorities.
Assist reliability engineers in evaluating equipment lifecycle costs and replacement options.
Participate in planning activities related to mechanical reliability and asset sustainability.
Contribute to projects focused on improving equipment availability, maintainability, and overall reliability.

  • Process Safety & Site Reliability
Support Process Safety Management (PSM) and site reliability initiatives.
Assist in reliability reviews of critical equipment and systems that support safe plant operations.
Participate in equipment inspections, field assessments, and engineering reviews.
Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel to support safe and reliable production.

  • Data Visualization & Reporting
Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations that communicate asset condition, reliability trends, and business risk.
Utilize data from SAP, maintenance systems, condition monitoring tools, and operational databases to support analysis efforts.
Create presentations that summarize reliability findings, project outcomes, and improvement opportunities.
Track key reliability performance indicators and communicate results to stakeholders.
Present project findings and recommendations to site leadership and cross-functional teams.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, and Technical teams to support reliability initiatives.
Conduct field visits to verify equipment conditions and gather operational insights.
Participate in daily reliability activities, maintenance planning discussions, and project reviews.
Develop practical experience working in a manufacturing environment where reliability directly impacts safety, production performance, and business results.
Build relationships with experienced engineers and gain exposure to real-world reliability engineering practices.
