Job summary

Southwest Power Pool is seeking an Operations Developer Intern for Summer 2027. This paid internship runs 10–12 weeks, 40 hours/week, with housing provided if needed.

You will work on real projects, learn SDLC best practices, and gain hands-on experience in development, testing, and documentation. The role supports the Market Operations Development team and offers exposure to a variety of technologies while developing professional skills.

Qualifications

• Current college student entering senior year pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
• 3.0 GPA or higher preferred, strong financial/analytical abilities.
• Experience or familiarity with SQL, SAS, Java, Linux, Tableau, Oracle or Mongo is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and implement solutions for assigned project within SDLC guidelines.
• Provide training and documentation on work and processes created.
• Manage tasks and documentation using an issue management system; coordinate changes and releases.
• Analyze customer, business and technical requirements with the team; design solutions.
• Present lessons learned and knowledge gained at internship end.

Internship Details

• This internship will begin the Summer of 2027
• This is a 10-12 week 40 hours per week project based internship. You will be completing real work that supports goals for our overall business
• This is paid internship and housing will be provided if needed for the duration of the internship.
• Team activities may be scheduled after hours throughout the internship.
• Each intern will be required to deliver a presentation at the end of their internship to demonstrate lessons learned and knowledge gained.

Overview

The responsibilities of Operations Developer Intern will vary by project and include creating, testing, and implementing solutions, as well as providing training and documentation. You will manage tasks and documentation using an issue management system, oversee change and release management, and participate in defining and analyzing requirements. Additionally, you will work with the team to design and implement technical solutions, adhering to SDLC best practices.

General Responsibilities:

• Obtain proficiency on the applications, functionality, and processes used within the Market Operations Development team that are in-scope for the assigned project.
• Work with team members to obtain experience as a developer and to understand what we do here at SPP.

Development Responsibilities:

• Specific development requirements will depend on the assigned project
• Develop, test, and implement solutions to assigned project
• Provide training and documentation on the work or processes that were developed.
• Utilize an issue management system to oversee the documentation and management of assigned tasks
• Coordinate change and release management
• Participate in analysis and definition of customer, business and technical requirements
• Coordinate with the team to design and implement technical solutions
• Follow SDLC best practices for development activities

Education Requirements:

• A college student entering their Senior year working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field

Preferred:

• 3.0 GPA or above preferred
• Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, and PPT.
• Financial, analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Experience with any of the following could be utilized: SQL, SAS, Groovy, Java, Linux, Tableau, Oracle, Mongo
• Ability to communicate effectively with settlement analysts, accountants, engineers, management and senior management. This communication, both written and oral, is for the purposes of requests, analysis, coordination, guidance and presentations
• Strong interpersonal skills and customer focus
• Knowledge of computer business applications and data base management systems

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is an intern position. Days and hours of workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
