Job summary

CesiumAstro in Austin, TX, invites applications for a Summer 2027 Manufacturing Intern. This paid internship offers hands-on experience across manufacturing operations for satellites and aerospace hardware.

You will collaborate with the manufacturing engineering team to optimize processes, support daily operations, and gain exposure to lean manufacturing while developing strong documentation and communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited Associate/Bachelor/Master program in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess and improve manufacturing processes.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and CAD software.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to goals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• High attention to detail for process documentation and quality control.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing priorities.
• Proactive and self-motivated with desire to take on new challenges.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the manufacturing engineering team to identify opportunities for process optimization.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving production issues using engineering principles.
• Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process flowcharts.
• Collect and analyze data from manufacturing processes to identify trends and improvements.
• Assist in quality control activities, including inspections and root cause analysis for non-conforming products.

As a Manufacturing Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of manufacturing while supporting the daily operations of our organization. CesiumAstro interns regularly present their work to peers, mentors, and CesiumAstro executive leadership throughout the course of the summer. As such, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the manufacturing engineering team to identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving production issues by applying engineering principles and problem-solving skills.
• Create and maintain detailed manufacturing process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process flowcharts.
• Collect and analyze data from manufacturing processes to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Assist in quality control activities, including inspections, testing, and root cause analysis for non-conforming products.
• Learn and apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline production processes and reduce waste.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to bring innovative ideas to the team.

Job Requirements And Minimum Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s program in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field at an accredited institution.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess and improve manufacturing processes.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, CAD software, and engineering principles.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment, share ideas, and contribute to collective goals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings.
• High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in process documentation and quality control activities.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with electronics assemblies.
• Experience with SMT methods.
• Experience with CNC manufacturing.
