Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) invites students pursuing architecture, architectural engineering, civil, and structural engineering to apply for Summer 2027 Internships at multiple office locations across the country. Interns will gain hands-on experience alongside industry experts, with on-site investigations, field work, and lab opportunities in Northbrook, Illinois and other locations. The program emphasizes mentorship, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

Qualifications

• Current student in junior/senior year or graduate program in civil/structural engineering, architecture, or related field.
• Excellent verbal, graphical, and written communication skills.
• Interest in forensic engineering and existing structures.
• Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Assist on-site investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, documenting distress, field testing, data collection and site reports.
• Organize field data and research building codes and design guidelines to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed professionals using software and engineering calculations.
• Assist with preparation of preliminary and final client deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and written reports.
