Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) invites students pursuing architecture, architectural engineering, civil engineering, and structural engineering to apply for Summer 2027 internships at multiple office locations across the United States.

Interns will assist project teams with on-site investigations, data collection, and report preparation, gaining hands-on experience from industry experts in field and lab settings, including the Northbrook, Illinois area.

Qualifications

• Current student with excellent academic standing in their junior or senior year of a bachelor's or in a graduate program in civil or structural engineering, architecture, architectural engineering, building science, or related field.
• Excellent verbal, graphical, and written communication skills.
• Interest in forensic engineering and architecture with a focus on existing structures.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams with on-site investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations, including documenting distress and collecting data.
• Organize field data and research construction documents, building codes, and design guidelines to aid analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under guidance of licensed professionals using analysis software and calculations.
• Assist with preparing preliminary and final client deliverables, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
