As the Design Excellence & Operations Intern, you will support the DExOps team across Experience & Design, contribute to process improvements, tooling enablement, and cross-functional collaboration, with a mentor and hands-on design ops exposure.

Qualifications

• At least two years toward a four-year undergraduate degree in Design, Business, Communications, or related field.
• Anticipated graduation on or before May 2028.
• No prior professional experience required; internship or project work in design operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Document and standardize design processes across 6 cross-functional teams.
• Maintain centralized tooling systems for design docs and assets (Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Figma).
• Support team communications and feedback loops for transparency and alignment.
• Assist with team-building and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Support workflow optimization and resource allocation; assist vendor management and tooling enablement.
• Other duties as assigned; roles may evolve at any time.

Key’s Enterprise Internship is a 10.5-week program that provides meaningful work that matters, offers feedback and coaching, and creates engaging events and conversations that will spark excitement and interest in bringing one’s full-time career to Key.

Interns are involved in a host of line of business specific projects that directly impact and benefit Key’s business and strategic pillars. The program includes networking with Key teammates across all levels of the organization, a series of Learning Labs where internal and external speakers provide insight on Key’s competitive landscape, financial wellness, and professional development best practices, and an assigned mentor who shares knowledge, experience, and advice.

Job Summary

The Design Excellence & Operations Intern will support the DExOps team by contributing to initiatives that enhance the Experience & Design (KeyXD) team’s ability to deliver Excellence across our People, Processes, Platforms, and Portfolio—from how KeyXD collaborates and communicates with one another to the quality of the work we deliver, the experiences we create, the impact we make and the value we add to Key, our partners, our clients, and each other.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to learn, grow your knowledge and skills, share your unique perspective and ideas, and contribute to: KeyXD team interactions and communications; project intake and resource allocation; process improvements and documentation; workflow optimization; KeyXD team collaboration; vendor management and tooling enablement, and more. This role offers hands‑on experience in design operations and exposure to cross‑functional teamwork within a design‑forward organization.

Essential Functions

• Assist in documenting, standardizing, and operationalizing design processes and workflows across 6 cross‑functional teams to support clear, structured work processes.
• Support the organization and maintenance of centralized tooling systems for design documentation and assets (Jira, Confluence, Sharepoint, Figma, etc).
• Assist with team communications and feedback loops to promote transparency and alignment.
• Help create and participate in team‑building and knowledge‑sharing activities to foster collaboration.
• Perform other duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and/or activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
• Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, including acting professionally at all times, conducting business ethically, avoiding conflicts of interest, and acting in the best interests of Key’s clients and Key.

Education

• Must have completed at least two years toward a four‑year, undergraduate degree program with coursework in Design, Business, Communications, or related field with an anticipated graduation on or before May of 2028.

Work Experience

• No prior professional experience required. Previous internship or project work in design, design operations or process improvement is a plus.

Skills

• Engaging personal presence with proactive can‑do attitude and ability to think broadly about what design, strategy, research, operations, and other teams need to perform at their best.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on clarity and simplicity.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment and contribute to group initiatives.
• Strong time‑management and organizational skills to support multiple tasks.
• Familiarity with the design process and the DesignOps field is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, Jira is a plus.
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast‑paced environment.

Physical Demands

• General Office: Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in person or via video with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

KeyBank’s Internship and Analyst positions are not eligible for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H‑1B visa). This includes, for example, situations where a candidate may have temporary work authorization while enrolled in school or upon graduation (e.g., CPT, OPT) but would need H‑1B visa sponsorship within a few years of employment in order to maintain employment eligibility.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn an hourly rate of $23 per hour. Compensation also includes a $2,000.00 Summer Internship Sign‑on Bonus.
