Ulteig is seeking a Civil/Transportation Engineering Intern to support surface transportation and infrastructure teams. The internship provides hands-on experience on a variety of civil engineering projects, including design, planning, traffic engineering, construction observation, and field assignments.

You will work with engineers, designers, planners, and project managers, gaining exposure to public-sector projects and standards while developing technical knowledge and professional skills.

Responsibilities

• Support civil, roadway, transportation, and municipal infrastructure projects under the guidance of experienced professionals
• Assist with the preparation of engineering plans, drawings, exhibits, reports, and specifications
• Support design activities involving roadway geometry, drainage, traffic control, and utilities
• Perform basic engineering calculations, data analysis, and quantity calculations
• Assist with transportation planning, traffic studies, and data collection

Summer 2027 Civil Engineer Intern - Surface Transportation

Ulteig is seeking a Civil/Transportation Engineering Interns to support our surface transportation and infrastructure teams. This internship provides hands‑on experience across a variety of civil engineering projects and may include a combination of design, transportation planning, traffic engineering, construction observation, and field assignments, depending on project needs, office location, and the intern's interests and experience.

Our teams support public‑sector clients on projects such as roadway reconstruction and rehabilitation, municipal street improvements, bridge and structure projects, traffic and multimodal improvements, corridor studies, utility coordination, signing and pavement marking, and other transportation infrastructure projects.

Interns will work alongside engineers, designers, planners, and project managers while contributing to real project work. We are looking for candidates who are curious, dependable, collaborative, and eager to expand their technical knowledge while building a career in civil and transportation engineering.

What You'll Do

Depending on your assigned projects and team, you may:

• Support civil, roadway, transportation, traffic, and municipal infrastructure projects under the guidance of experienced professionals
• Assist with the preparation of engineering plans, drawings, exhibits, reports, technical memoranda, specifications, and other project deliverables
• Support design activities involving roadway geometry, grading, drainage, erosion control, traffic control, pavement markings, signing, utilities, street lighting, and other infrastructure improvements
• Perform basic engineering calculations, research, data analysis, quantity calculations, and cost‑estimate support
• Assist with transportation planning, traffic studies, operational analyses, data collection, and existing‑condition evaluations
• Use industry‑standard engineering, drafting, transportation, and GIS software to develop plans, maps, figures, exhibits, and other technical materials
• Review applicable state, municipal, agency, and project‑specific standards and assist with incorporating requirements into project deliverables
• Participate in project meetings, design reviews, coordination activities, and quality‑control processes
• Support field activities that may include construction observation, materials testing coordination, site assessments, existing‑condition verification, or traffic data collection
• Maintain project records, construction quantities, daily reports, checklists, and other documentation when supporting construction administration activities
• Communicate project progress, questions, and observations with engineers, project managers, and other team members
• Work in both office and field environments and take on increasing responsibility as your knowledge and experience develop

What We Expect from You

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Interest in transportation, roadway, municipal infrastructure, construction, or related civil engineering work.
• Willingness to work in both office and field environments based on project needs.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
• Curiosity and willingness to ask questions, learn new skills, and take ownership of assigned work.
• Ability to work effectively within project requirements, schedules, budgets, and applicable client and agency standards.
• Must be able to work full‑time during Summer 2027
• Potential to continue internship through the school year based on performance and business needs
• Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation for this role is $25-$27/hr.
