Job summary

Ulteig is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in Sioux Falls, SD. You will support both construction and design on municipal street reconstruction, bridge projects, and related work, under supervision with opportunities for hands-on learning.

You’ll gain practical experience applying classroom knowledge, exposure to a consulting environment, mentorship from professionals, and a broader view of civil engineering challenges.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley Open Roads Designer is a strong plus
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and attention to detail
• Must be able to work full-time during Summer 2027
• Potential to continue internship through the school year based on performance and business needs
• Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and analyze engineering systems
• Under supervision, plan preparation that includes grading plans, erosion control plans, traffic control plans, pavement marking, street lighting, underground utility design, and pavement design
• Develop plans and specifications that comply with state and municipality requirements
• Demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and design ownership
• Perform construction observation duties on assigned projects
• Maintain records, construction quantities, checklists, daily reports, and documentation for construction administration projects
• Coordinate on-site materials testing
• Perform work within both office and field settings

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking a talented and motivated Civil Engineer Intern to join our Civil team for Summer 2027. The selected candidate could support both construction and design, which will provide a well-rounded experience throughout the summer. Typical project work includes municipal street reconstruction, county structure replacement, county-wide sign replacements, bridge inspection, and bridge design. We are looking for candidates that are eager to expand their knowledge base and grow their career. Prospective candidates are expected to be committed to client satisfaction, and adhere strictly to client-driven standards, schedules, budgets, and passionate about working with our clients and team!

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, implement, and analyze engineering systems
• Under supervision, plan preparation that includes but is not limited to grading plans, erosion control plans, traffic control plans, pavement marking, street lighting, underground utility design, and pavement design

• Demonstrate a wide degree of out-of-the-box thinking, creativity, and design ownership

Additional Opportunity Details:

Target Base Compensation for this role is $25-$27/hr.
