SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) seeks a Suicide Prevention Coordinator to lead behavioral health grant programming across SEARHC communities. Plan, budget, implement and evaluate grant strategies and programs supporting assigned projects and improving community health.

The role requires evenings and weekends, strong data collection/reporting skills, and the ability to advocate for funding opportunities, prepare grant reports, and coordinate with funders to advance policy

Qualifications

• Associates degree in health related or business field, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Relevant work experience of 2 years in a health or social services field may be substituted for degree.
• Healthcare leadership training/certification preferred

Job description

Pay Range:$26.06 - $36.08The Suicide Prevention Coordinator works as a member of the SEARHC team to manage, administer and advocate for behavioral health grant programming. Additionally, the Project Coordinator plans, budgets and evaluates strategies, interventions and programs per the assigned grant(s) and project(s) that support this position. These services are provided to individuals, small groups, and communities in the SEARHC region as part of the Behavioral Health Division.

The Suicide Prevention Coordinator needs to be available to offer consultation, advocacy and implementation of grant programs during non-traditional hours i.e., evenings, weekends; s/he also needs to be comfortable with intermittently at work and intense pressure to meet deadlines. Effectively assess, collect and critique health related-data and identify priority health issues per the assigned grant(s) or project(s). Select, implement and evaluate evidence-based strategies to effectively improve behavioral health status of individuals, small groups and/or communities per the work plan(s) working across the SEARHC region and with multiple SEARHC staff across Divisions. Can include one-on-one individual client counseling they need to have communication and practiced skill set to effectively work with clients and/or small groups. Prepare and submit grant reports, act as SEARHC liaison to funding organizations and work on a team for funding opportunities. Write and develop grant applications as needed with support from SEARHC grant writers. Develop impactful strategies for policy, systems, and environmental changes that positively affect the health of SEARHC patients and communities per the grant and project workplan(s)

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

In accordance with Section 101 of the Human Resource Manual advocates for Alaska Native/American Indian hiring preference, works with Alaska Native/American Indian employees on career development, and creates mentorship or developmental opportunities for Alaska Native/American Indian employees.

Administer (i.e., exercise organization leadership, secure fiscal resources, manage human resources and obtain program acceptance and support) health education strategies, interventions, and programs per the approved work plan(s).

Communicate and advocate for behavioral health per the approved grant work plan(s); apply a variety of communication methods and techniques, influence health policy and SEARHC resources to promote health in the targeted communities proposed by the grants or projects.

Implement health education policies, strategies, interventions, and programs.

Track and report budget items for multiple grant budgets per the grantor’s requirements and SEARHC’s financial system.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

• Associates degree in health related or business field, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Relevant work experience of 2 years in a health or social services field may be substituted for degree.

• Healthcare leadership training/certification preferred

Experience Required

• Minimum of 4 years healthcare or social service-related experience.

• Experience which includes Community Health or Education is preferred

Knowledge

• Knowledge of methods for strategic planning and how to develop strategies to reinforce or change organizational culture to achieve program goals

• Knowledge of public relations concepts and theories to obtain program support

• Knowledge of implementation strategies for advocacy initiatives

Skills

• Skills in budget & proposal development to secure fiscal resources and support program requirements

• Skills in assessing the merits and limitations of qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods

• Skills in developing a logical scope and sequence plan for health education practice

Abilities

• Ability to apply sound leadership principles to human resources and facilitate staff development. This includes use of human resource policies, employment law/regulations and conflict resolution strategies.

• Ability to influence health policy to promote health both within and outside the SEARHC organization.

• Ability to incorporate theory-based foundations in planning programs

• Ability to promote the behavioral health and health education individually and collectively

• Ability to travel to remote locations in small planes if needed
