Job summary

UES is seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Project Manager to lead and grow SUE capabilities in the Midwest. The role is hands-on, combining field leadership with business development to expand our utility locating, concrete scanning, and subsurface investigation services.

You will mentor staff, develop pipelines, and manage client engagements. Initial emphasis on field execution and technical leadership will transition to building a scalable regional program with QA/QC, reports, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics or similar degree.
• 1–2 years of private utility locating using radio detection and GPR.
• Experience with CAD, GIS and mapping software.
• Geology field work, geophysics, or civil engineering knowledge.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management platforms.
• Willingness to travel and interface with clients and regulators.
• Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Subsurface Utility Engineering projects across the Midwest region.
• Perform field investigations and guide early program development.
• Lead private utility locating, concrete scanning, and subsurface studies.
• Provide technical guidance on geophysical methods and investigation strategies.
• Support QA/QC and data interpretation; prepare reports and client deliverables.
• Mentor staff, establish field procedures and standards, and oversee schedules.
• Develop scopes, estimates, proposals, and budgets; manage client relationships.
• Travel regionally and nationally to support projects and business development.
