Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, is seeking a SUE Crew Chief to lead field crews in subsurface utility engineering projects across Quality Level A and B. This field-based role requires strong on-site leadership, safety adherence, and the ability to coordinate daily operations with field staff.

The candidate will utilize GPR and EM locating equipment, perform utility designation, and review site and roadway drawings to ensure accurate records.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of field experience in utility locating, including Quality Level A and B work (required)
• Working knowledge of ASCE 38.02 and 38.22 is a plus
• Experience designating utilities, performing utility records research and interpreting site/roadway drawings
• Ability to pass drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record per company policy
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required)

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage field crews, including scheduling, quality control, and day-to-day decision-making in the field
• Serve as the primary point of contact for field operations
• Designate utilities and perform utility records research
• Interpret site, roadway design, and utility record drawings
• Operate and oversee Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and EM locating equipment; oversee vacuum excavation
• Prepare and organize field sketches and digital photographs
• Ensure company safety standards are adhered to
• Provide training in locating and designating for crew members
• Complete daily checklists and timesheets
• Provide personnel oversight and vehicle navigation
• Other field survey and SUE duties as assigned
