Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company, seeks a SUE Crew Chief to lead field crews on subsurface utility engineering projects, including Quality Level A and B work. This field-based role requires hands-on supervision, safety oversight, and coordination with the Survey Field Crew Supervisor.

You will designate utilities, research records, interpret site and design drawings, operate GPR and EM locating equipment, and supervise daily field activities.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of field experience in utility locating (A/B) work.
• Familiarity with ASCE 38.02 and 38.22 is a plus.
• Ability to direct field crews, schedule, and ensure quality control.
• Experience designating utilities and researching records.
• Extensive knowledge of GPR, EM locating, and vacuum excavation.
• Travel to projects may be required.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage field crews, including scheduling and QC.
• Serve as primary contact for field operations.
• Designate utilities and perform records research.
• Interpret site, roadway design, and utility drawings.
• Operate GPR, EM locating equipment, and vacuum excavation.
• Prepare field sketches and photos; ensure safety standards.
• Provide training in locating and designating for crew members.
• Complete daily checklists and timesheets; supervise vehicles.
• Other field survey and SUE duties as assigned.
