Job summary

Coastal Alabama Community College seeks a Success Coach to provide high-quality tutoring services that help students develop independent learning strategies and persist in college. You will support tutees through individual and group sessions, clarify concepts taught in class, explain processes, and guide problem solving to reach their goals.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience.

  • Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to present to groups and engage in outreach activities.
  • Patience and a strong desire to help students achieve goals.
  • Ability to work as a team member or individually with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work across multiple campuses (multi-campus positions).

Job description

The Success Coach is responsible for providing high-quality tutoring services for Coastal Alabama Community College students. Tutoring services assist college students by helping them develop academic success strategies. The primary responsibilities of a Success Coach are to support students (tutees) to become more independent learners, persist in college, and reach their goals. Success Coaches provide individual and/or group tutoring to students; meet with students to clarify and review concepts taught in class; explain processes; and help students solve specific problems. Tutoring sessions will support classroom-centered activities, and the emphasis and content of the tutoring sessions are determined by student need and/or instructor referral. Success Coaches work with the Lead Success Coach and instructors to maintain training and professional development.

Hourly Rate(s):

AS or BS degree: $26.00

MS degree or higher: $27.05

At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
  1. Provides subject-specific content to help students through scheduled and/or drop-in tutoring sessions.
  2. Provides in-person tutoring on campus and virtual tutoring, as needed.
  3. Recognizes and adjusts to the different learning styles and student learning preferences.
  4. Creates a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.
  5. Uses active listening strategies to allow the student to determine content and pace of tutoring in a kind and direct manner.
  6. Utilizes listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress.
  7. Participates in professional development activities to improve tutorial skill and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills.
  8. Utilizes feedback and reflection to improve practice.
  9. Recognizes primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners.
  10. Provides direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success
  11. Makes appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed.

  12. Ensures the positive promotion of the College and integration of all campuses within the College.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  1. Associates degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Prior tutoring or teaching experience.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  4. Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
  5. Ability to speak in front of groups and present academic and tutorial sessions and engage in outreach activities.
  6. Patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goals.
  7. Capable of working as a team member or individually with minimal direct supervision.
  8. Ability to traverse and work on multiple campuses (For the multi-campus positions only).
Preferred
  1. Bachelor degree or higher in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Experience providing tutorial and/or academic support services for students.
  3. Knowledge of or ability to learn relevant programs including OneACCS, Canvas, Tutor.com, online learning assistance resources, and student performance monitoring systems.
