Job summary

Terracon in Carson, CA is seeking a mid-level Subsurface Utility Engineering Project Manager to oversee SUE exploration, review utility records, and coordinate with survey crews and geophysical teams. The role demands a 4+ year SUE background, travel willingness, and a California-appropriate PE/PGp/PLS track or progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, engineering, surveying or related field.
• Minimum 4 years experience with at least 2 years in the SUE field.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Willingness to travel.
• Must have one or on track to acquire one of the following licenses in the state of California: Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geophysicist (PGp), Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
• Mid-level SUE PM responsible for oversight of QLD through QLA activities on medium sized projects with a variety of complexity.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the SUE processes, procedures, and standards.
• Ensure project delivery and compliance with ASCE 38-22 standard.
• Participates with more senior staff on large, more complex projects.
• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.
• Direct and supervise field staff to test and collect data and/or document site activities.
• Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects including quality control review of proposals written by others.
• Evaluates complex geophysical data and assembles in written reports.
• Review final SUE drawing and report.
• May serve as team member or lead in meetings and communications with client pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
• May oversee work performed by lower level Geophysicists and Technicians.

Job description

General Responsibilities:

Oversee projects related to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Exploration. The Project Manager (PM) will oversee utility records review and documentation, and coordinate with survey crews, geophysical teams, and test holes. Geophysical or survey experience is preferred in-order to assist with coordination of primarily QLD through QLB designating activities.The PM will also assist with proposal writing and management. Define survey objectives, design survey approaches, coordinate with subcontractors, owners, clients, and internal teams. Results are incorporated into the planning, design and construction of vital infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airports, industrial, and other facilities. All SUE projects would be performed in accordance with ASCE 38-22/02.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
