Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Advises students and passengers of appropriate behavior.
• Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and safety situations.
• Assists students and passengers; attends meetings and trainings.
• Cleans assigned vehicles; conducts emergency drills.
• Drives school van(s) and fuels vehicles as needed.
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Prepares reports and logs (field trip, incidents, mileage, counts).
• Reports observations and incidents; responds to inquiries.
• Supervises students during transit.
• Assists other personnel as required.

Job Description

The job of Substitute Van Driver is done for the purpose of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle operation is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from vans.

Essential Functions:

• Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior
• Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations
• Assists students and other passengers; attends meetings, trainings, etc.
• Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior; conducts emergency evacuation drills
• Drives school van/s
• Fuels assigned vehicle, (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.)
• Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections, (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.)
• Prepares documents and reports, (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, etc.)
• Reports observations and/or incidents, (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.)
• Responds to inquires, (e.g. students, parents, other school personnel, etc.)
• Supervises students and other passengers during transit
• Assists other personnel as may be required
