Job Summary
The Substitute Teacher carries out the instructional plans and supervises students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role ensures a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment, following school policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to facilitate student learning.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and classroom procedures.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other school spaces as needed.
- Report any incidents, concerns, or unusual student behaviors to appropriate school personnel.
- Follow all policies, rules, and procedures of the school district.
- Complete all required documentation and submit reports as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal or designated administrator.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum); Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Valid substitute teaching license or teaching certification as required by the state.
- Prior teaching or childcare experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing situations.
Working Conditions
- May work in various schools across the district.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift classroom materials.
- Workday schedule aligns with school hours and may vary by assignment.
