The Substitute Teacher supports classroom teachers in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. This role assists in daily classroom operations, including guiding children through learning activities, supervising routines, maintaining cleanliness, and preparing materials. The Substitute will work at multiple locations and may also rotate between classrooms as needed. The Substitute Teacher works closely with staff to meet the individual needs of each child, ensures active supervision, and fosters positive relationships with children and families. Ongoing training and participation in professional development are required to support high-quality early childhood care and education.

Responsibilities
  • Support campus staff and assist in assigned classrooms as needed.
  • Guide children in activities that support physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development under teacher supervision.
  • Respond to individual developmental needs of infants and toddlers.
  • Actively supervise children indoors and on the playground.
  • Help prepare materials and adapt the physical environment as needed.
  • Monitor children to ensure safety at all times.
  • Maintain positive communication with children and families.
  • Assist with meals, diapering/toileting, hygiene, rest, and play routines.
  • Keep classroom areas clean, organized, and sanitary, including light cleaning tasks.
  • Complete 20 hours of annual training and attend required staff development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must obtain an age-appropriate CDA within one year (related degrees may substitute).
  • Minimum six months of childcare experience.
  • Strong understanding of human behavior and effective communication skills.
  • Able to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Warm, calm, and patient approach with infants.
  • Reliable, insured vehicle for transportation.
  • Must meet all health and safety requirements, including:
    Passing a pre-employment and/or periodic physical exam
    Annual TB screening
    Background check and renewals as required

Must be able to frequently walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to twist, turn, kneel, bend, and stoop.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to monitor children’s safety in activities when needed.
