Job Description
THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY
POSITION TITLE: Substitute
ASSIGNMENT: Substitute
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required.
  • Satisfactory clearance of a Criminal History Records check and drug screening
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  • Must complete classroom observation requirement
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have working telephone
  • Must have available to accept jobs when offered
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  • Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies
  • Ensures adequate supervision to provide for the health, welfare, and safety of all students they are instructing
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Reports to the front office upon arrival at school, requests clarification of class assignment, school rules and procedures
  • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
  • Implements teacher's lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate
  • Organizes students for effective instruction
  • Dismisses all students from the classroom at the appropriate time, ensuring classroom is empty and in a clean and orderly fashion
  • Collects and places students papers on teachers desk or requested location
  • Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place
  • Reports to sub designee to determine if additional services are required
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with district and school policies and practices
