Job summary

Gila Bend Unified School District is seeking a Substitute Teacher to cover classes in the absence of the regular teacher. You will implement provided lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and report back to the supervising teacher daily.

A flexible schedule helps accommodate sudden absences and supports a smooth learning environment. Requirements include an Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card and a valid Arizona teaching or substitute certificate.

Qualifications

• Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card (must obtain before starting).
• Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate or Substitute Certificate (must obtain before starting).
• Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
• Relevant classroom experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow and implement lesson plans as provided by the classroom teacher.
• Maintain discipline and control of the classroom.
• Work cooperatively with teachers, teacher assistants, nursing and other staff and parents.
• Arrive on schedule with punctuality and dependable attendance.
• Comply with district policies and procedures.
• Function independently with flexibility and integrity.
• Carry out duties of the classroom teacher such as recess, lunch and bus duties.
• Communicate daily with the classroom teacher regarding the day.
• Demonstrate genuine concern for students and set high expectations.
• Be engaged with students and monitor them at all times.
• Keep students informed of schedules and expectations.

Summary:

In the substitute teacher role, you will assume responsibility for a class and perform all the tasks of the absent teacher, such as keeping students in order, conducting quizzes, and giving homework. You are expected to have a flexible schedule to accommodate sudden teacher absences. Success in this role will be demonstrated by providing excellent instructional and classroom management service throughout the absence of the full-time teacher.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

• Follow and implement lesson plans as provided by the classroom teacher
• Maintains discipline and control of the classroom
• Work cooperatively and effectively with teachers, teacher assistants, nursing and other work personnel and parents
• Arrive to work as scheduled, demonstrating punctuality, dependability, and personnel hygiene
• Comply with personnel policies, student rights, and Gila Bend Unified School District policies and procedures
• Function independently, demonstrate flexibility and personal integrity
• Carry out extra duties of the classroom teacher such as recess, lunch and bus duties
• Communicate to the classroom teacher regarding the day
• Demonstrate genuine concern for the students
• Set high expectations for student behavior and learning
• Be engaged in activities of classroom and monitor students at all times
• Keep students informed of schedules and expectations

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

**Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card. (Must Obtain Before Starting Work)

**Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate or Substitute Certificate. (Must Obtain Before Starting Work)

Bachelor's degree in education or any related field preferred

Relevant classroom experience preferred

Passion for teaching and strong leadership capabilities.

Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
