Job description

To provide flexible support in both the classroom and kitchen settings at Bennington County Head Start. This position fills in for absent staff as a Teacher Assistant in classrooms or as a Kitchen Assistant supporting food preparation and delivery. The role ensures smooth daily operations and promotes a safe, developmentally appropriate, and healthy environment for children and staff.

Major Responsibilities

• Education: Works with the Head Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Co-Teacher to provide classroom instruction and activities. Follows the daily activity plan, prepares educational materials, assists with self-care routines, small and large group activities, and supervision, and reads the sub folder to ensure the routine and safety protocols are observed.
• Classroom Maintenance: Maintains educational supplies and art materials, monitors equipment, assists children at mealtime and activity time, and cooperates with teaching staff to keep the classroom orderly.
• Meal Preparation: Assists with meal tasks for program events, family gatherings, workshops, and meetings, including grocery pickup, food preparation (chopping, cooking, serving).
• Health/Safety and Sanitation: Cleans up after meals, maintains kitchen cleanliness and appliance safety, rotates inventory, monitors expiration dates, and complies with federal and state standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
