Position Summary

Assist cook in the preparation of daily meals that meet Head Start and USDA requirements and maintain a sanitary and healthy environment for children; schedule varies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Help cook to prepare meals according to the cyclic menu. Foods shall be attractively presented; hot foods served hot and cold foods served cold.
• Serve meals on time and maintain a sanitary, healthy environment by adhering to regulations for dishwashing and sanitizing surfaces, and by participating in daily custodial duties.
• Follow the Head Start performance standards for Health and Nutrition, and Oregon Health Division Food Sanitation Rules.
• Maintain open lines of communication within the program, including participation in team or individual meetings as requested, and submission of documentation or reports, as requested, in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform necessary mathematical calculations; determining and prioritizing own workload.
• Maintains confidentiality of records and conversations in accordance with policy; treats others with respect and consideration regardless of status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments; adapts to changes in the work environment; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; manages competing demands; is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a commercial or USDA kitchen.

• Prior to beginning work, the successful candidate must enroll in the Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry, obtain communicable disease verification from a qualified healthcare provider, and provide documentation of verification to work in the US (passport, driver’s license, official ID card, original birth certificate, social security card).
• Within 30 days of hire, the candidate must obtain Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification and an Oregon Food Handler’s Card.
