Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development into mature, able, and responsible individuals in the absence of the regular teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 64 college credit hours with a 2.5 GPA.
  • Reports to: Principal
  • SUPERVISES: Students and Instructional/General Aides as assigned.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Teaches lesson plan outlined by the absent teacher.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classed in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate of the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students, as adopted by the local and state Board of Education.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct for classroom and school related activities as set forth by the Paducah Public Schools Code of Conduct.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Continuously strives to improve professional competence and collaboration with colleagues and communities.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, committee meetings, staff development and in-service programs.
  • Promotes public relations for the school’s programs and activities.
  • Becomes acquainted with parents; reports any unusual occurrences or event to the principal or the designated representative immediately.
  • Contacts the principal or the designated representative as soon as possible when the teacher must be absent from school.
  • Remain at school during the entire school day unless excused by the principal or the designated representative.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Implements all rules and regulations, policies and administrative guidelines as adopted by the SBDM Council and the School Board for the district.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  • Maintains a professional appearance as an example for students.
  • The Board of Education delegates to the person holding this position the reasonable authority necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities listed for this position.
  • Is familiar with and incorporates the use of technology in daily tasks.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Adheres to the professional code of conduct.
  • Perform additional duties/tasks and assume additional responsibilities as needed or assigned and as prescribed in Board policies.

As needed by the district.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Substitute Teachers.
