At the end of May, the NJDOE launched a new application and certification program, the New Jersey Educator Certification System or NJEdCert. On June 1, 2022, NJEdCert will be available. Educators may apply on/after June 1 for all certificates and credentials.
- New applications
- Renewal of provisional certificates
- Renewal of emergency certificates
- Standard application for all CE and CEAS candidates who have completed the PTP process
- All Substitute Credential applications

Substitute Teachers
Qualifications
- Must hold a NJ Teaching License or a NJ Substitute Teacher License
- Valid New Jersey Teacher Instructional Certificate preferred
- NJ Substitute Teacher License requires a minimum of 30 college credits
- Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
- Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while a regular teacher is absent
- Ability to follow lesson plans, left by the permanent teacher or paraprofessional
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
